Borg in-Nadur, March 2011

On a grey miserable Sunday morning, the Amphibians headed south to visit the stone age remains at Borg in-Nadur.

Of course, the Amphibians are comfortable in and out of the water, so some eyebrows were raised when some got scared off too easily from the pouring rain and headed back to drier surroundings.

Bicycle Challenge 2010

1079876083_dsc_9708_mThe Great Bicycle Challenge 2010

When the magician can't recover back the item he has just vanished - you know this is no ordinary event.

And when the engineers can't get the machine to obey the laws of gravity and the mechanics are more concerned with looks rather than function and when the bankers and the accounts throw caution to the wind - this must be one big mad afternoon.

It was great fun - no doubt about that.

In true Amphibian style - the challenge was to race bikes underwater. Following on the heels of cycling all the way from Venice Italy to Manchester's Old Trafford, Jesmond was the first in the water. Honing in on the experience gained of photographing the Life Cycle 2010, John was able to capture some memorable pics!

Cycling around Malta under water may still be a bridge too far as cycling with SCUBA gear is still a work-in-progress project for the Amphibians. Whilst bicycles still need to be tuned and with most of us still catching their breath from over exertion and laughing, let's hope our magician locates his dive computer in time for the next act.

Verdala Palace, Feb 2011

A sizeable group of Amphibians attended the club's guided tour of the President's Verdala Palace at Buskett on Sunday, 20th February 2011.  It was great to learn that throughout the ages, men have been in the habit of carrying heavy loads on their back for sports - well not SCUBA gear in this case - but heavy protective armoury! Going to battle is no sports either, but the Verdala Palace was a good hunting ground and trespassers were often bbq'ed !  Well not really, only suffocated in steaming sulfur!! At least that how the story goes.

Enjoy these pics and see if you can spot the Verdala blue lady. Look closely in the mirrors and in the haunted woods.

End 2010 Club Dive

Many club members braved the cold weather and headed for Cirkewwa for one last dive in 2010... well there's still a week left and many will take another dip before the year is out! But as club dives go, this is the last for the year.

And what a good way to end the year!  True to the club's motto of dive and dine following a splendid visit to Rozi and an undewater sip of the good old bubbly, the Amphibians were welcomed back on shore to a nice warm Christmas snack.

A cup of piping hot mulled wine, mince pieces, Christmas cakes, torta tal-lewz, chocolate biscuits - all served under the nice and cozy comfort of the gazebo put up for the occassion by the ever industrious Jesmond!?

Well done guys! What a great morning!
