Santa Maria Caves Comino - 31 July, 2010

Santa Maria Caves - Comino

Due to bad weather, the planned dive to Ras il-Qammiegh was changed instead to a dive in the Santa Maria Caves in Comino. This beautiful dive site can become quite crowded - especially in summer - due to its immense popularity with visitors to the Maltese Islands. The Amphibians often tend to overlook this dive destination, but on this weekend we all enjoyed ourselves immensely and will probably be doing at least once a year.

Qarnita_3A sizable group of Amphibians enjoyed a great summer night as can only be found in the Maltese night. Clear, calm and warm waters greeted the adventurous lot- but more was in store once we submerged!

Xifer l-Infern - Delimara, 17 Jul 2010

A very hot Saturday afternoon saw the Amphibians head to devil's end - Xifer l-Infern, Delimara. Situated just outside the Marsaxlokk harbour, the calm surface waters betrayed the moderate sea currents noticed once in the water. Sea temp. during dive ranged in the comfortable range of 23°C to 21°C with a reasonable visibility of 18m.

Pleasant reef dive with max depth of 32.5m with lots of purple nudibranch and the odd octopus. Shoals of damsel fish haphazardly changing directions indicating the presence of predators which unfortunately weren't spotted.

What a fantastic night dive this has been!

Thanks to veteran SCUBA diver Mario Mula, who has so exquisitely captured the essence of this dive on film.

Don't take our word for it - click image to the left and see what we mean.

See how many klamari, qarnit, sicc, morini, ckal etc you'll manage to spot in this clip.

Munxar Reef Jul 2010The Amphibians dive at the Munxar Reef

Great dive with fantastic visibility and plenty to see. The area is rich in marine life with shoals of damsel fish, moray eels of all sizes, he odd octupos and many vopi. The highlight of the dive surely must be the basking ray spotted covered in sand which finally gliding away when the Amphibian photographers got too close.
